Stolen Treasures from an Unguarded Temple Part VII

What gives you the right to say these things? First, my wife and I both come from a one-hundred-year heritage in Pentecostalism. Our families have seen every trick, gimmick and reality, we have truly seen the pendulum hit both walls. Our grandmothers were women who knew what it meant to take hold of the horns of the altar and pray until the answer came. Whether it be for lost husbands, children, miracles or praying people through to the Holy Ghost. I have thirty years of ministry with integrity and moral purity by the grace of God. For twenty-six years, my wife and I have enjoyed a wonderful God ordained marriage, we have been blessed to see real salvations, true baptisms Continue reading Stolen Treasures #7

Arguments That Warn Believers of the Possibility of Apostasy

Sometimes those in the Arminian camp have not clearly articulated their doctrinal position. We have used the phrase lose your salvation, as though such an act could be accidental, unintentional, and the result of a momentary slipup. Detractors have rightly attacked this phrase as an inaccurate reflection of Scripture. Therefore, we must refamiliarize ourselves with passages that support our doctrine, and then articulate it in a way that properly reflects the teaching of God’s Word. Scriptures Used in Support of PS/ES and Their Proper Interpretation

Those who espouse the PS/ES view of salvation often refer to John 5:24 to support their position, “He who hears My word and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.”6 Proponents believe this verse means once you have passed from death to life, you eternally have life. The grammatical context of this verse, however, Continue reading Does the Bible Teach Eternal Security? Part 2

Does the Bible Teach Eternal Security? Part 1

Introduction

In a previous article, I briefly discussed the doctrinal position of perseverance of the saints, eternal security, or, once saved, always saved.1 Here, however, I will address it more completely.

The doctrine of eternal security teaches that once a person experiences salvation, nothing can cause him to lose that status. Millard J. Erickson states: “The Calvinist position is both clear and forthright on this matter: Continue reading Does the Bible Teach Eternal Security? Part 1

Stolen Treasures from an Unguarded Temple Part VI: Spiritual Loss

We will now begin to deal with the matter of spiritual loss. At a time in our culture when the hunger for supernatural things is so clear, for example, zombies, vampires, the living dead.

The church however, has relegated the supernatural to a back room in an effort not to offend the seeker friendly crowd, what utter nonsense. One of the most frequently asked questions, among new people of all ages, especially young people, is when are we going to see something we can’t explain? When are we going to see manifestations of the Holy Spirit? Our low expectations are rooted in our shallow faith and our mundane weekly routine of the same old, same old. Nothing mind-blowing or supernatural ever seems to happen, Luke 5:17 tells us that the power of God was present to heal, Continue reading Stolen Treasures #6

Q: Can I really be set free from sin?

Yes you can, thirty years ago I was a drug addict of the lowest order. I had a fifteen hundred dollar a day cocaine habit. The day I asked Jesus to forgive me of my sins, save my soul, and set me free He did so immediately. His word promises in John 8:36, “he whom the Son sets free is free indeed.” The Apostle Paul wrote to us in Romans 6:22 “ but now having been set free from sin ,and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.” The angel told Joseph that Jesus would come to save people from their sins. John wrote us again in I John 2:1”little children these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” I’m not saying you will not live a sinless life, however, I am saying sin shall not have dominion over you. A life of liberty, peace and joy in Jesus is possible, but you must repent of you excuses and allow Him to cleanse you and start fresh, you can be free in Jesus name.

Q: What is a Christian in the modern world in which we live?

To call one a Christian too many people simply means I am not Muslim or Jewish or any pantheon of other religions. However, in the early church they did not refer to themselves as Christians, but they were given that name by others first, at Antioch. I wonder if the American church of today is living a life that would cause others to identify them with acting like Jesus. My question has always been, is there enough evidence in your daily life to gain a conviction in a court of law for you behaving like Jesus, if not we have a severe problem.
Jesus Christ demands more allegiance than any dictator who ever walked the face of the earth, yet loves more than our human mind can comprehend. How could we withhold anything in our lives from one who exemplified love in such a manner? I could offer you a long theological dissertation on what it takes to become a Christian, but quite simply Jesus himself said, “You must be born again.”

The Apostle Paul wrote in II Corinthians 5:17 “therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature and old things are passed away and behold all things have become new.” Has this been your experience? Are you dead to sin and alive to righteousness as is written in Romans 6 and 11? Are you walking in the Spirit and not fulfilling the lust of the flesh? To call Jesus Lord, which means quite simply Master, if He is not the supreme ruler over our lives by love something is amiss.

Q: What is the gospel?

Simply speaking it means good news. The good news is I was born in sin and shaped in iniquity and deserving of a devil’s hell, but God so loved the world that He gave His only Son to die in my place for my sins. To set me free from the penalty of sin and the power of sin.

The Spiritual Condition of the People

Matthew 22:29 “Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God”. John 8:31-32 “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”.

Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shall be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children”.

Hosea 4:9 “And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings”.

Isaiah 30:10-11 “ Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us the right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: “ Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us”.

Having dealt with the issue of stolen content we must now move on to the weightier and more personal matter of our ministerial responsibility. Before we begin, I must admonish you to remove the self and the carnal excuses about ourselves and our ministry. Remember, open rebuke is better than secret love and the father always corrects those whom he loves. It is neither my desire nor the heart of God to either browbeat or sugarcoat the situation. Most of you did not start out spiritually where you are now. The declension has been subtle so as to deceive you into thinking this is just the way things are now. Pain, disappointment, sheep bite, discouragement, a seeming lack of success, watching others promoted by nepotism, politics and false though popular teachings has diminished us spiritually.
